TEGO Scholarship Fund

Opening doors, expanding access and changing lives.

About the Fund

In 2007, the Tuition Exchange Board of Directors established a grant fund in honor of a longtime Board member, Howard D. Saperston. The Tuition Exchange Grant Opportunity (TEGO) fund provides additional financial assistance to prospective TE scholars who might not otherwise be able to attend college even with a Tuition Exchange scholarship.

The TEGO award process is selective and award winners receive up to $10,000 — $2,500 a year for a maximum of four years or graduation, whichever comes first. The grant supplements the TE scholarship and may be used for tuition and non-tuition items associated with the cost of attendance at a TE member institution. Tuition Exchange makes direct payments of $2,500 to the college or university where the student is enrolled on an annual basis.

Award Requirements

Candidates for the TEGO award must be nominated by a Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer at their home (export) institution or the import institution (where they intend to enroll). To be considered, students are not required to have final TE Scholarship award offers. Having TE eligibility is all that is needed for TEGO consideration. In order to receive the TEGO award, however, the successful student must be a TE scholarship recipient.

  • Tuition Exchange scholarship eligibility
  • Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer nomination
  • A calculated Student Aid Index (SAI)* of $25,000 or less for the designated year
  • Enrollment at a Tuition Exchange institution on a Tuition Exchange Scholarship

*The SAI is determined by completing the 2025-2026 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at fafsa.gov or by using the SAI estimator.

Timeline and Selection Process

Dates may vary on an annual basis but, in a typical year, Tuition Exchange Liaison Officers are invited to submit TEGO nominations in February with an early March deadline.
